My Story
My path to becoming a Dementia Doula began with an interest in supporting people and families through life’s more complex and tender moments.
I initially trained as an End-of-Life Doula, feeling called to work with individuals and families during times of change and transition. But when I discovered the role of a Dementia Doula, I knew instantly that this was where my heart truly sat.
Supporting people to live well with dementia – and working with families as they navigate the journey – felt like a natural and meaningful direction for my work.
Aside from my professional training,
my dementia doula work is shaped by lived experience.
I have supported family members and friends living with different types of dementia and understand first-hand how confusing, emotional and isolating the journey can sometimes feel. These experiences have given me both insight and empathy to guide the way I support others.
As a Dementia Doula, I provide non-clinical support for people living with dementia and those who care about them – from early changes and diagnosis through to later stages, transitions in care and bereavement. My role is to offer guidance, practical support and continuity, so that individuals and families feel informed, supported and less alone.
I believe that with the right support, information and connection, it is possible to live with dementia in a way that still honours identity, relationships and quality of life.
My qualifications
I completed my Dementia Doula training through Dementia Doulas International.
I have also commenced a Diploma of Dementia Care through the University of Tasmania, continuing to deepen my knowledge so I can provide informed, compassionate and practical support to the individuals and families I work with.
